tkJabber is a free version of our tkJabberPro Instant Messaging plugin for our Aethera PIM system. If you don't know, Jabber (www.jabber.org) is an open source, XML based Instant Messaging (IM) protocol that not only has its own server protocol, but will interface with all the popular IM protocols such as AIM, MSN, Yahoo Chat, ICQ and even IRC.

tkJabber has the following features:
Standard (Free) Edition:
- Support for Jabber transports such as Jabber, AIM, MSN, Yahoo Chat,ICQ
- Buddy lists
- connect to multiple protocols at the same time
- tabbed interface for multiple chats and servers
- History of conversations
- Audio notification of incoming messages.
- System Tray applet that provides notifications, including popup messages
If you decide to invest in tkJabberPro you get all of the above, plus:
- Encrpyted communications using gpg.
- File transfers
- Headlines from news sites (RSS)
- Group Chat
- IRC interface
