Kivio: Powerful Flowchart Program for KDE

Kivio for KOffice was originally released in October 2000 and added to the KDE/KOffice project in January 2001, we saw the 1.0 release of that in April 2001. Kivio is a Visio (tm) style of application that allows you to easily create diagrams and charts by using a large library of pre-defined "stencils" cover a wide range of topics, you can see the complete list of available stencils here. When we donated the Kivio application to KOffice, we also included our Basic Flowcharting stencil, but you can purchase additional stencils at a cost of between $5 and $10 each to get what you need. Keep in mind that this version of Kivio is typically pre-loaded on any Linux distribution, but also only runs on Linux under KDE.

A common question is "What is the difference between Kivio for KOffice and Kivio mp. Well, we had a tremendous amount of interest in Kivio, but also a lot of requests for it on other platforms like Windows and Mac OS X, so we took the opportunity to rewrite the application as a Qt application, redo the core engine so that it also supported generic vector drawing system like Corel Draw. In addition our new engine allowed us to add a lot of features that are not available in the KOffice version, but the distribution model is virtually the same...

When you download a demo of Kivio mp, it comes with that same Basic Flowcharting stencil set, other than that, it's a full copy of Kivio, this means that you can just purchase individual stencils. However when you purchase Kivio mp, you get *all* available stencils for the one price, which is a savings of hundreds of dollars, and with Kivio mp you get versions for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X, all for that same single price, you even get the source code to the application if you want, for no additional fee's or hidden charges.

Features

Multiple paper size support. All standard paper sizes are supported (letter, A4, etc...), and you have the ability to create your own.
Dynamically loadable stencils. Stencils support various attributes such as:
- Border width
- Foreground color
- Fill Style
  - Gradient
  - Solid
  - Pattern
  - Pixmap
- Arrow heads
- Text
Multiple pages per document. Organize your document according to your own needs. No need to be locked to a single canvas.
Grouping. Select any stencils you want, and group them into a single element for easier manipulation.
Full clipboard support (cut/copy/paste/duplicate).
Clipboard history. Paste previously copied stencils!
Layer support. Stencils can be laid out on different layers for easier organization. Stencils also default to specific layers. For example, if you are laying out a floor plan, furniture goes on one layer, while walls and structural shapes go on another, and wiring on yet another.
KParts support. Want to place a Kivio document in your KWord document? It's easy! Just insert a new Kivio part into your KWord document and load your document. Want to insert a spreadsheet into Kivio for diagramming? Insert a new KSpread part into Kivio and load your spreadsheet!
Customizable helper lines. Having a hard time getting your stencils to align properly? Drag a helper line out onto the document and your stencils will snap to it.
Subselections. Some stencils are made up of numerous small shapes. If you do not like the way one is colored, subselect it and change it!
Python scripting. Scripting allows not only the programming of the stencils, but also Kivio. Add new interface elements or visualization tools.
C++ Plugin interface.
Customizable user interface. If you do not like the layout of the screen by default, drag the various elements around until you are satisfied. Some elements even allow you to change their colors for a more pleasing look.
Dynamically resizing grid. As you zoom in further and further on a document, the grid will constantly refine itself to allow you to place your stencils with more precision.
