Location / Home / Products / Rekall / ODBC interface ODBC was developed by Microsoft some years ago as a generic way to interface to a database. The upside to ODBC is that you can write your code to a single interface and theoretically if you have the necessary ODBC drivers, the same code will run against various databases, the downside is that the ODBC interface isn't necessarily optimized for that particular database that you are working with. Despite being a Microsoft invention, there are ODBC drivers on Linux as well. With Rekall we took an even more abstracted view of the database where ODBC can be a plug in to that framework, so you can get the best of both worlds. If we have a specific interface to a database such as DB2, then using our DB2 driver instead of the ODBC driver will get you better performance and you also won't have to potentially purchase an ODBC driver from the database vendor in addition to everything else. However if we don't supply an interface that you are looking directly, but you have an ODBC driver, then our ODBC plug in for Rekall will get you up and running fast. The ODBC interface is available as a separate product for Rekall, you can purchase it by adding it to your shopping cart and then downloading it immediately. Remember that this isn't an ODBC driver, it is an interface to the drivers, you must already have the relevant ODBC driver for this to work.
