tkcWhiteboard

By Margot Ross

tkcWhiteboard is our innovative approach to collaborative, Internet based white boarding applications. Why is it innovative? Because we decided to use Jabber as the transport mechanism. If you aren't familiar with Jabber, then you should read up on it, but it is typically used as an Instant Messaging platform, but the protocol is very extensible as evidenced by tkcWhiteboard.

When you open tkcWhiteboard, you will see the following screen:

For example purposes, I'll use the Kompany's Jabber server. You can, however, use any jabber server for your Whiteboard sessions (if not your own Jabber server, then a public Jabber server.)

Tap and a login dialog screen will pop-up:

I used my existing login for valentine.thekompany.com, the Kompany's Jabber server. If you don't have one, then create one by typing a Login name and a password and tapping create.

If you have a login, enter your login name and password and tap Login. Once you do that, you will see on the Log screen that you are connected:

You will also notice that 2 other icons are now lit up, and the connect icon is now greyed out.

Disconnect: Tap this to disconnect from Jabber server.

Join: Tap this to enter the information to join a conference:

On the Join to Conference dialog box, you enter your nickname, the server, which in this case is conference.valentine.thekompany.com, and the channel, which is wboard for this demonstration.

Then tap Join to enter the whiteboard conference. You will see a list of users in the conference, and Log box will show that you have joined:
