tkcPlayer

tkcPlayer is a playback application for MP3 and Ogg files. You can play MP3s
and OGGs from an SD card, a CF card or the RAM on the Zaurus. You
can also play them from a network drive (NFS/Samba), but that is
outside the scope of this document.
First move the MP3/OGG files to your
Zaurus. If you do this by synching please see the note below.
Note:
In order to properly sync Ogg files to your Zaurus using Qtopia
desktop, you must edit the mime.types file in your Qtopia Desktop
directory on your PC (for Windows). You may have to do the same
with Intellisync, but that is untested at this time.
Default path is: C:\Program Files\Sharp\Qtopia Desktop\etc\mime.types
Add this line: audio/ogg ogg (open file in Wordpad or Notepad)
Save and exit.
Restart Qtopia Desktop
If you don't add this line to mime.types on your PC, the files will synch to:
/home/root/Documents/application/octet-stream (RAM) or
/mnt/card/Documents/application/octet-stream (SD) or
/mnt/cf/Documents/application/octet-stream (CF)
If you do not make the change and the
Ogg files copy to /octet-stream, tkcPlayer will find the Ogg files on
your Zaurus, allow you to add to Play List, and play the songs just
fine, but if you click on the .ogg file on the Documents tab on your
Zaurus, you will get an error and the song will not be recognized as
valid file type.
You can also manually copy the Ogg files into:
/home/root/Documents/audio/ogg or
/mnt/card/Documents/audio/ogg or
/mnt/cf/Documents/audio/ogg
NOTE:
If you add an MP3 or OGG file to your Zaurus, you must close
tkcPlayer and re-open it for it to be seen. You also have to Clear
All on the Play List tab, then Add All to see the complete list with
the added files.
 Play List Tab:
When you first open tkcPlayer you see

 NEW !! Version 21 Enhancements:
tkcPlayer now supports the ability to seek (this was *not* easy) as well as selectable locations for media
and the ability to show/hide the visualization screen.
Here are some screenshots reflecting the new changes:
Main Screen is a little bit different:
On the first tab, the Play List tab, if you tap , a menu drops down with some new options:
The Media Folders icon, when tapped, allows you to add folders for tkcPlayer to search for your music files:
In the big window are folders I've chosen already, which reside on another pc. I used smbmount to mount a share
a windows PC. Tap "Add Folder" to browse for your music folders. If you check the Process Documents Folder box,
tkcPlayer will look in those folders for your music files. When unchecked, it won't search those folders.
Tap "OK" to return to the Play List screen.
Show Visualization toggled on:
Note the Slider bar under the song title box. This is the "Seek" slider so you can move ahead or back in a song/track.
Visualization toggled off (this should save some CPU utilization):
 ANNOUNCING tkcOggRipper!
For those who don't know, we are huge fans of the Ogg Vorbis audio format, however what we found was that there
was no real good, clean simple way to rip ogg files on Linux and Windows, so we developed tkcOggRipper a totally
free, (as in no cost, you don't get the source code) easy-to-use app for ripping your CD's to ogg format. You can
read about it and download your free copy from www.thekompany.com/projects/tkcoggripper.
