Location / Home / Embedded / tkcJabber / FAQ How do I automatically import my AIM buddy list?
This is a function of the AIM-TRANSPORT in the server. According to
the Jabber developers they are close to having this feature and once it is
available we will add it to the Jabber server hosted by theKompany, but
that doesn't mean other Jabber servers will have it immediately.
Why doesn't IRC work right for me?
theKompany did a number of important fixes to the IRC-TRANSPORT code
supplied with Jabber to make it usable. At this time we have the only
Jabber server running this code, so if you connect to a different Jabber
server, it isn't likely to work.
(AOL) People on AIM can't send me messages unless I put them in my buddy
list, what gives?
Your server-side AIM preferences are setup to only allow people in your
buddy list to message you. An easy way to fix this is to login to AOL's
java-based AIM Express
(http://www.aim.com/get_aim/express/aim_expr.adp?aolperm=h) and update your
preferences there.
(AOL and Yahoo) No matter how many times I remove a buddy, they keep
showing up whenever I login.
tkcJabber is grabbing your list of buddies from the IM server. Try AOL's
AIM Express or Yahoo's java-based client to update your server-side buddy
list.
My AIM buddies have spaces in their names but Jabber doesn't seem to
like them, what do I do?
Jabber ID's cannot have spaces in them, so in the case of AIM you use
the name
without spaces, for example:
"Joe Blow Shmoe" becomes JoeBlowShmoe@aim-transport
How do I deal with the @ sign in an MSN id?
MSN has the strangest conversion of them all, which is to replace the @
sign
with a %, for example:
"bob@hotmail.com" becomes bob%hotmail.com@msn-transport.
In both cases there is a Jabber draft (unofficial) spec to have the
transports do this conversion for you, but since it is unofficial not all
transports support it yet.
