theKompany.com has much to shout about. Here's where you can keep an eye on what's going on with us and our software. If you're looking for press releases, head on over to the Press section.

06 July 2010 - Version 4.2 of our popular ERD tool, DataArchitect is now available, read all the details in our press release here.

16 December 2008 - Our premier ERD tool, DataArchitect has had a major update, read all the details in our press release here.

21 October 2007 - Many of you are familiar with our sister company Mindawn, which is a digital distribution service similar to iTunes store, but with a number of advantages, like no DRM, CD quality and more. One of the only real complaints we had was people didn't like having to install our client software to do the full song preview, well, we've finally developed the technology to do this in any web browser in a sufficiently safe manner that we are now launching this new feature. Basically you go to www.mindawn.com and click on any album and you will see a little speaker icon under the column heading 'demo'. Click on that and a window will pop up where you can play, pause, adjust volume and see the album cover.

We hope you'll come by and check it out, we've got about 40,000 songs in the system now and there is a good amount of rare and out of print material as well as new releases from a lot of your favorite labels and artists. You can listen to any track, in full, up to 3 times, so a great way to test drive and discover new material, even if you don't ultimately buy it at Mindawn, but for only $8.99 you get a CD quality digital download.

26 September 2007 - These incredible little machines support not only MP3, but our native OGG and FLAC formats as well. They can most closely be compared to an iPod Nano, but with more features and at a lower price. Audio only at 4GB is just $119.95 and 8GB with video is just $174.95. That is from 70 to 140 hours of music in OGG or MP3 format.

We are currently selling them at our sister company ProgRock Records here.

1. This will *not* play DRM enabled AAC files, this is what you get from the iTunes music store

31 July 2003 - We get asked all the time to make a custom ROM for the Sharp Zaurus PDA, but the logistics of the idea really don't make it feasible, however we did come up with a solution. There was a talented coder working on a ROM already that was doing all the things we wanted to see in a ROM, so we donated some artwork and themes, and gave it a name and helped to promote it on our pages here. This ROM currently runs on the 5000 and 5500, but a 5600 version should be available in a week.

If you have a Zaurus, you owe it to yourself to check out theKompany.rom.

14 January 2003 - While we swore we'd never do this, we had a lot of requests, so we decided to work with CafePress and make some merchandise available. You can either go direct, or from our site.

Something we're toying with is having product oriented shirts, you can see one for QuantaGold already, if the idea is popular then we will add other products as well.

12 January 2003 - There is a very nice and thorough review of Rekall, our RAD database centric development tool (similar to MS Access) over at LinuxMuse. Check it out.

20 December 2002 - We are very excited to tell you about our latest product for the Sharp Zaurus Linux based PDA. We have now released tkcPhone a Voice over IP (VoIP) application that allows you to use your Zaurus as a phone, either to make free calls between computers, or to make PC to phone calls through an exchange like Net2Phone which we have formed a partnership with and we will be offering direct reselling of Net2Phone for you. Prices are as low as $.02 per minute in the US and $.03 per minute internationally, but calling to another PC is free. This will be available about the end of December 2002.

A free demo is also available that restricts phone call duration and removes the g729 codec.

13 December 2002 - We'd like to tell you about a pet project of ours that has been developing for some time now called ProgRock.com. It is an internet radio station that plays a lot of hard to find progressive music. Classic stuff like Rush, Yes, ELP, Genesis, etc., as well as new stuff like Dream Theater, Spocks Beard, Ayreon, Pain of Salvation and much more. It is free to tune in, and you can request whatever you want to hear, see what what is currently playing, was played and what is coming up. Just click on the Listen Now link on the page.

If you don't want to use the Live365 player, then past this into WinAmp or whatever you are using: http://www.live365.com/play/jerrysprogrock

We will also be including it in our free version of tkcRadio for both embedded and desktop systems. If you are sick of hearing Mariah Carey and the Backstreet Boys on the radio, then you should tune in and hear something fresh.

03 December 2002 - Kivio mp is our multi-platform charting and diagramming tool for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. Kivio is meant to be similar to Visio from Microsoft, but we take it a bit further, we also include a variety of free form vector drawing tools, like a light weight Corel Draw.

What is notable in this release is support for NURBS and pentagonal drawing tools as well as smart, bendable connectors between objects. The other item of note is that Kivio mp now works with Mac OS X 10.2.

29 November 2002 - Our President and founder, Shawn Gordon, just did an interview with Linux and Main that is mostly centered on our Embedded applications for the Sharp Zaurus PDA.

27 November 2002 - We have now released Rekall version 1.1. Rekall is our RAD DBMS centric tool for Linux and Windows. Think of it as similar to MS Access but supporting more databases and using Python instead of Basic for scripting. This release is notable for having Windows support, and lots of enhancements and improvements. We will be releasing our first commercial database plug in for DB2 shortly.

18 November 2002 - We have just released version 3.3 of our popular IDE for C/C++ development on KDE, KDE Studio Gold. This new release is notable for supporting Java in addition to C/C++. Prices start at just $24.95.

06 November 2002 - QuantaGold version 3.5.0 for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X is now available. Quanta Gold is a the Web developer's dream tool. Use its simple point-and-click interface to quickly and easily create powerful websites, even using the latest scripting languages like PHP, Python, DTML, and many more. Keep an eye on the growth and structure of your site with its special tree view. Take advantage of its syntax highlighting to easily read your code. All this and more is possible in Quanta Gold -- the professional-level tool for creating dynamic websites.

01 November 2002 - We're happy to announce a partnership with ThinSoft Inc. where we are offering a bundle of our tkcJabber product with their WinConnectZ that allows you to remotely access and control a desktop Windows PC (its pretty wild). The list price for WinConnectZ is $49.95 and the list price of tkcJabber is $19.95. The price of the bundle is just $59.95, so it's a great value.

29 October 2002 - Adding to our growing list of applications for the Sharp Zaurus PDA is our new shopping list program, tkcShopper. This is really a hard core shopping list management program with store profiles, and all sorts of handy tools. Make sure to check it out.

27 October 2002 - If you aren't already aware, tkcRekall is a version of our Rekall product for the Sharp Zaurus PDA. You can think of it as kind of like MS Access, but way cooler of course :). People have asked for a less feature filled version that cost less money, so we decided that the easiest way to do this was to actually just make a 'Lite' version that has only support for xBase and no other databases. We have now made this available for just $24.95. We will also be making available some real beginners guides to help you get started even more.

22 October 2002 - We are happy to announce the release of tkcRadio for the Sharp Zaurus PDA. tkcRadio is a great companion to our tkcPlayer product which plays MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files on the Sharp Zaurus. tkcRadio plays streaming audio from the Internet allowing you to sample a wide variety of webcasters music, much more varied than what is available on terristrial radio. We are offering a free version of tkcRadio that plays just streaming Ogg Vorbis, see the tkcRadio web page for details.

21 October 2002 - A review of tkcCalendar has recently been posted over at PDA Tweaks. tkcCalendar is part of our PIM suite for the Sharp Zaurus PDA running Embedded Linux and Qtopia.

18 October 2002 - We have just released tkcWhiteboard for the Sharp Zaurus PDA. This is a collaborative drawing tool that allows you to interactively work on drawings with other people over the internet. What is especially interesting is that we use the Jabber protocol (and you thought it was only for Instant Messaging) as the transport. It is very fast and doesn't require any changes to the Jabber server, so it can be used pretty much anywhere.

We will be releasing a desktop version as an Aethera plug in around December 2002 for Linux, Windows and likely Mac OS X as well, so the usefulness of this application will just continue to grow.

14 October 2002 - We are pleased to announce the availability of version 2.5 of Kivio mp our Visio(tm) like tool for Linux and Windows. This new version includes a number of enhancements and bug fixes. When you buy Kivio mp, you are getting the entire library of 30+ stencil sets as well, almost a $300 value all on it's on, for prices starting at just $89.95. Try out a free demo and see what you think.

06 October 2002 - More reviews have surfaced on our software for the Sharp Zaurus PDA. You can read this review on our new tkcExpense applications, and this review of our popular tkcVideo application as well.

30 September 2002 - After over 2 years of development, our personal finance package Kapital for Linux and KDE, is now at a 1.0 release. Kapital is available for both KDE2 and KDE3 and works with the new gcc3.2 based distributions.

Some features slipped from version 1.0, so anyone buying version 1.0 will receive free upgrades up to and including version 1.1 due around February 2003. In consideration we will continue the discounted pricing of $24.95 for electronic and $29.95 for packaged until after 1.1 is released. Free demo's are also available.

There is a short write up over and Linux and Main.

25 September 2002 - Being huge fans of Ogg Vorbis audio format (instead of MP3) and not able to find a really simple and easy to use ripper for Linux and Windows, we decided to write one, the results being tkcOggRipper. This program is freely available in binary form, the reason is that it uses some of our proprietary libraries, but we are interested in feedback if you have it, just use our reporting system.

LinuxOrbit decided to throw up a short review that you should check out. Couple of caveats though. The ftp server that the code is available from has connection limits on it, and these don't get reported correctly, you will see numbers all over the map, just keep trying, when you are in, you are in. The other thing to keep in mind is that Mozilla for some reason often times will show no files on this server, so use a different browser.

19 September 2002 - There is a delightful review of our Jabber instant messaging client for the Sharp Zaurus, tkcJabber that you can read at Open For Business here.

18 September 2002 - We've release two new games for the Sharp Zaurus, they are tkcRotator and tkcLoadRunner. Both are great additions to our growing family of apps for the Sharp Zaurus and are priced at just $4.95 each.

15 September 2002 - A short but fair review of tkcPlayer has shown up over at Linuxlinks, you can read it here.

They have also posted a short and mostly fair review of tkcVideo, but they ignore the fact of all the other hard work that went into tkcVideo beyond just using ffmpeg, which only accounts for a part of the product.

You can also see reviews of tkcFTP, tkcGallery and tkcRace there as well.

For those of you not familiar, these products are for the Sharp Zaurus PDA

12 September 2002 - A couple months ago we announced tkcExpense for the Sharp Zaurus PDA and after discussions with the initial beta group and internally we decided to shelve that project and go for a real hard core featured expense app and so today you see the fruits of that labor as the revived tkcExpense. Currently priced for just $14.95 on our web site, you are going to love this app, check it out here.

22 August 2002 - There is a nice and short interview with our CEO Shawn Gordon over at OSNews. If you really like to get into the talkbacks, it's been linked to by Slashdot, DesktopLinux, LinuxToday and PCLinuxOnline

21 August 2002 - We are very happy to release version 1.2.0 of Kobol our integrated IDE and compiler for the COBOL language on Linux and Windows. This new release has some fantastic new updates to the compiler such as support for the SCREEN-SECTION and DISPLAY AT coordinates, as well as accessing command line run options. Free demo's are available and the prices start at just $39.95.

05 August 2002 - we are very pleased to announce the availability of tkcToDo for the Sharp Zaurus. This baby is far beyond what you would expect from a ToDo app and is more mini-project management. We're told it is so powerful that it will grow hair where you want it and impede growth where you don't want it :). All this power for only $14.95. Remember what we always say (if you ask), "If you don't buy our software then we both lose money" :)

03 August 2002 - You didn't even know you wanted it, but now you won't be able to live without it. tkcRace is a classic race car game for the Sharp Zaurus, it's fun to play and a great way to kill time or act like you are busy :). It's priced at just $9.95, get yours today.

01 August 2002 - Adding to our ever growing list of embedded applications for the Sharp Zaurus PDA is tkcMemo. Strangly there is no memo pad application on the Zaurus, so tkcMemo fills the gap and adds other features as well for just $4.95.

30 July 2002 - tkcVideo for the Sharp Zaurus is now available for just $19.95.

tkcVideo is a multi-format video playback application for the Sharp Zaurus, making the Zaurus the worlds first portable Mpeg4 player. Because Mpeg4 encoded files allow the use of lower bitrates with the same quality, it is possible to encode more than 1 hour of 320x240 (the Zaurus screen resolution) Mpeg4 video to a 128mb Compact Flash card.

Now you can take your movies anywhere on the go and watch them conveniently while you are waiting at the doctor, traveling or bored in a meeting (although the headphones will be a giveaway).

11 July 2002 - tkcRekall is a port of our desktop Rekall application for Linux and Windows to the Sharp Zaurus PDA. This is a serious application, with serious capability, you can design or deploy on the desktop or on the Zaurus (you have to own both products).

On the Zaurus you can work against local databases, or as a client to a remote database across the network. tkcRekall includes xBase as a default database, but can also work with the ports of MySQL and PostgreSQL for that device.

tkcRekallis available for just $49.95, and is the first in another wave of applications for the Sharp Zaurus we have coming out shortly.

10 July 2002 - We were quite surprised to open up the current issue of Infoworld to see they had done a write up of our exciting new Kobol multi-platform IDE and compiler for COBOL. The author admits he knows nothing about COBOL, but doesn't waste the chance to say how bad COBOL must be, however he liked our Kobol product. Go figure.

03 July 2002 - We have release the first commercial plug in for our Aethera eMail/PIM suite, namely a Jabber Instant Messanger client called tkJabber which integrates seemlessly with Aethera. You get the advantage of SSL support, free updates and soon more integration with Aethera where chat logs can be filed into Aethera folders, IM connection information on the profile, click on a user in an email or contact folder and start an IM conversation. tkJabber is just $9.95 and available now.

03 July 2002 - Holy smokes are we excited about this one. We've expended a massive amount of resources on Aethera for the last couple years and we are closing in on the final release now. This 0.9.9 release has lots of neat improvements, you can get it at www.sf.net/projects/aethera. Make sure to use our new online bug/feature tracking system at https://www.thekompany.com/mantis/login_page.php to send us your comment. We've got SSL and IMAP going real good in this release, you'll like it.

02 July 2002 - We are pleased to announce version 3.4.3 of QuantaGold is now available. QuantaGold is a powerful tool for creating and maintaining sophistacted web sites using PHP, Perl, Python, ColdFusion, Zope and other popular tools. This new release adds both Java and JSP to an already powerful product.

QuantaGold price starts at just $39.95 and you get all supported platforms for that price, which is currently Linux and Windows but Mac OS X is close behind. You also get free updates with your purchase.

24 June 2002 - Due to popular demand we are please to announce bulk discounting available to the public. The discounts start at 5% for 3 products and scale up to 30% for 10 or more products. This can be any combination of desktop or embedded products. You can see the exact grid that breaks it down here and here. This also marks the discontinuation of our tkcBundle embedded product, which was a bundle of most of the embedded applications.

21 June 2002 - Kobol has been reviewed over at Newsforge.

20 June 2002 - DesktopLinux.com has come up with a cool idea that they are calling wIndependance Day. Follow the link to check it out, but it's a pretty cool idea, and we even dontated a prize for it :).

11 June 2002 - It was announced today that theKompany.com has won the Trolltech Developer Contest for the Sharp Zaurus for our tkcJabber application.

We'd also like to draw your attention to the fact that ELX Linux now has a 1.0 release available. I've been real excited about this as a desktop linux distribution and think it's worthy of your attention.

06 June 2002 - There is a nice very nice write up of our new Kobol product over at Linux and Main, make sure to check it out. There is also a sidebar on Kobol over at Slashdot.

04 June 2002 - We've just release some major enhancements to our tkcCalendar product for the Sharp Zaurus. If you own a Zaurus and don't have tkcCalendar, you're really missing out.

30 May 2002 - We are pleased to announce the release of TeamDiagram version 1.0.0 in cooperation with CodebyDesign.

24 May 2002 - We are please to announce that Fry's Electronics (also on the web as www.outpost.com, but we aren't listed yet) and Microcenter, 2 popular chain stores in the U.S. are now carrying our full range of products. I stopped by my local Microcenter and they have very good prices as well.

20 May 2002 - We just keep adding to our growing list of applications for the Sharp Zaurus. Our latest is tkcAddressBook. If you're a Zaurus owner, you owe it to yourself to get it.

17 May 2002 - KOBOL is we hope an obvious play on words for COBOL, which stands for COmmon Business Oriented Language, so we refer to KOBOL as KOmpany Business Oriented Language. KOBOL is fully ANSI COBOL compliant and has even implemented the full Object Oriented extensions to COBOL that were just recently finalized by the ANSI committee, and not successfully or fully implemented by any other COBOL that we are aware of.

KOBOL is priced starting at $39.95 and includes version for both Linux and Windows. Read here for more details.

Look here to see what features SQL Project has in addition to those found in ASE.

This is a standalone version of the new Advanced SQL Editor, which is also included in Data Architect v2.1.0. The idea is simple: not everyone necessarily needs all the features of Data Architect, so we've decided to break them out as separate programs for those that are interested. For use on Mac OS X you will also need to install our new macODBC, which is included with your purchase.

07 May 2002 - There is a new and short interview with our President, Shawn Gordon that you can read here.

29 April 2002 - We've just released updates of just about all our embedded applications for the Sharp Zaurus. All the software benefits from improved memory management, but in particular we've added shape and text tools to tkcPainter, and the ability to launch applications for associated file types in tkcExplorer. Updates were also done to tkcCalendar, tkcPlayer and tkcEditor. If you don't have a Sharp Zaurus you should check them out, they are really cool.

With that we are please to announce the availability of macODBC, a generic ODBC interface and manager for Mac OS X. 09 April 2002 - You've been looking for something to replace MS Access on Linux? Well Rekall is it. We're using Python as the scripting language, not some half baked version of Basic that has been hacked to pieces. tkcFTP - $9.95 - tkcFTP is a fast and easy to use FTP client. With tkcFTP you can grab any file, anywhere and at any time as long as you have an Internet connection. Have a file you've been working on that is too large to email from the Zaurus? Just use tkcFTP to connect to the server and upload it. Works with wireless connections as well as dial up CF modem connections or network connections. All the features you’d expect from an advanced FTP client.
